In a significant move to bolster research capabilities, the Oman Dental College (ODC) has unveiled a new 'desk' dedicated to students as research assistants conducting retrospective researches on radiographs. This desk will also allow researchers access to a plethora of scientific journals, ensuring a comprehensive approach to academic inquiry. The establishment of this desk signifies ODC's commitment to fostering a thriving research environment and ensuring its students and faculty have the additional resources at their disposal.

Distinguished dental experts from Scotland and Wal

Distinguished dental experts from Scotland and Wales shared their knowledge with our faculty, students, and alumni. Prof Mike Lewis, Professor Emeritus in Oral Medicine (pictured at left), and Dr. Ann Shearer (right), former Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean NHS Education for Scotland, gave a talk at Oman Dental College's “Less is More” and “How good is your Oral Medicine” workshops, they created a wonderful scientific atmosphere. They also served as external examiners for our undergraduate students during their OSCE and case report presentation assessments.

Reader Aylin Baysan Presented a Seminar at ODC titled "Minimally Invasive Concepts in Endodontics"

ODC celebrated its emerging researchers with Dean

ODC celebrated its emerging researchers with Dean Nutayla Al Harthy handing them certificates of appreciation. This was a remarkable day for both ODC and the students who had participated in the IMU International Dental Students Conference (IDSC) in Malaysia winning several prizes. They had also successfully participated in the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Conference in the UK where a number of open papers were accepted. Additionally several students-led publications were accepted in Scopus-listed journals.

Representing the students, Al Reem Al Rusheidi, gave an impromptu speech igniting renewed enthusiasm and dedication.

Symposium on the contributions of Omanis in Medicine and Science

ODC recently participated in the above-mentioned symposium held at the University of Nizwa. The symposium provided an invaluable platform for our faculty and students to engage with other researchers from across the Sultanate, fostering a rich exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Dr. Ayida Al Wahaibi, Assistant Professor and Head of Basic Sciences at ODC participated along with Year 3 students namely; Samiya Al Ghammari and Al Reem Al Rusheidi who showed great potential as future researchers, and their active participation in this event is a testament to their enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, dedication and academic prowess.

ODC as the first HEI to implement PlumX Metrics Widget

ODC is the first higher education institution in Oman to embed the PlumX Metrics widget on its website. PlumX Metrics offers a comprehensive, multi-dimensional perspective on research, providing insights into categories such as usage, captures, mentions, social media, and citations.

“The integration of this widget reflects our commitment to transparency, innovation and the broad dissemination of knowledge produced at ODC” said Dr Siva Kumar, Head of Learning Resources at ODC.

Dr Abubaker Quteishat, Head of research at ODC added “The PlumX Metrics widget is a revolutionary tool which will allow us to measure and showcase the impact of our scholarly research in a dynamic and interactive way. ODC has always strived for excellence and innovation in its research efforts. The implementation of the PlumX Metrics widget is a testament to our solid dedication to research impact and visibility, and it will undoubtedly enhance our reputation in dental research”.
